Read this article about the wild camel population in Australia.

What should Australia do to control, use or get rid of all of the wild camels?

lol david carter! i think that it is unreasonable to kill perfectly good camels the the middle east would love. and besides, you could just use them for transporting around the farm! evn if they are trouble some, and ppl dont like them, they could mabye close them off to part australia with a fence or something... just an idea :)

I think that they should take one kind of camel like a female all away so the males can`t reproduce and take them to farms that are so big that they need to ride them! i agree with Robert why kill some many animals for use when you can sell them for a lot o money!

I don't think they should harm or kill the camels. They brought them there and if they don't want them they should bring them back. And if they don't want to take time out to bring them back to where they came from they should make sure that everything is protected from the camels, or like Robert said they should fence them up. I also think that they should use the camels for transportation in the farms instead of whatever technological thing they use now because it is probably polluting the air.

I agree with Samora, Sam A, Robert and Beccy that the camels should not be killed. If these camels are casing so much destruction than they should build more stable things or build their structures with wood that camels despise the smell of or the taste of but they should not kill the camels.

I totally with Amanda cause camels shouldn't be killed. Camels are very useful for transportation, especially in hot dry climates like in Australia.

The Camels in Australia are causing a lot of damage and the new Prime Minister is not doing much to help it who is the first female Prime Minister of Australia. Camels may be huge animals but they are very scared of a fence that is 2 inches high!! So they can be rounded up or can be used for things like the other David Carter is doing. Since these camels are from the middle east and the Camels in the middle east are all starting to die of diseases they could just take them back there. But they shouldn't be all killed like Amanda and Nico said.

I think that the poachers should drop there glocks and go round up the camals and put them in ZOOS casue if they do that they will be have benefaction instead of guilt. The camals like DAVID???? said are doing alot of damage so i can understand killing them, but why waste all that cha ching when you can just plant a bun of greenary around near a lake so its a win win situation, or they should just use there common sense and either eat it or use it as a coat.

I think that they should capture them and use then gor things like labor. If it was my tent or something that they distroyed i would be really mad. and camals who nedd camals they should just put them in a zoo or EAT them because this world cant have things like that running around austraila braking things.

Alright, but I think most of us aren't considering the consequences of our ideas.

Check these problems with your ideas:

Fence them in: There are 1.2 MILLION camels running around. Are you going to fence them all in the same pen? How are you going to catch them all?

Using them for transportation: People have cars! We don't need to ride camels anymore.

Take them back to the Middle East: How are we going to transport 1.2 million camels? Also, I doubt any country would want a shipment of 1.2 million camels. What would they do with them?

My opinion is that the camels should be hunted and used for food. The food could be donated to many foundations that are working on feeding people who are hungry throughout the world. I think it is a shame that right now they are culled and left to rot in the outback. Employ a team of people who shoot, butcher and pack the meat from the camels efficiently and then transport them to corners of the Earth that are having problems with their own food production. This would remove the camels from ecosystem, thus allowing it the opportunity to return to 'normal.'

Thoughts?

This sounds like a really hard task. There are many different solutions that end in killing the camels, however moving them without harming the camels or any other species sounds pretty tough. I think a smart way to drive the camels away would to put a certain spray on the leaves of trees or other plants (something that doesn't harm the plants) that the camels don't like, and leave one section natural, they can have people patrolling this area making sure camels only come in. Farmers should be able to carry on farming camels as long as they are being watched so they wont cause any trouble. The government could sell the camels to farmers to get money to pay for the guards patrolling the camels. They could also ship the camels off to countries which they are native to where camels are lacking. This is one of the ways I think Australians should use to solve there camels problem.

i think that the camels are causing a
lot of problems to Australia and they need to be controlled. I think if the camels are killing off other species that are more endangered then they need to be killed off so that no other species go extinct. A way to do this would be to try and spend the money making the camels in to food and donating them to red cross, instead of hiring helicopters which would be expensive. Also, they could start by giving money to farmers who volunteer to take the camels.

I think that they should let people who want the camels have them for farming, labor, transport or whatever they want and, agreeing with Mr.E, kill the remaining camels as long as almost EVERY part of them is used. (kinda like the whale slaughter in that town Mr.E taught us about last year)

Also Kian has a good point in his last sentence when he says, "Also, they could start by giving money to farmers who volunteer to take the camels." This would encourage farmers to think about ways in which they could make use of this freely available and perhaps profitable resource.

I think you should kill at least a quarter of them or experiment or something..Sure they are useful for transportation, 'cute' or smart. If we need have to many camels on earth we either need to enthuses some of these animals, do experimenting on them or import some of their natural predators into the area to help limit down the population.
