SCIENCE!

Click on "Open Simulator" on the page that this link brings up.

Your task is to include as many different organisms as you can in sustaining interactions.  If one species has a population of zero at the end of the simulation, start over and see if you can arrange things so all of your species survive the simulation.

If you can use them all, list the set-up that you have in the comments section.  If you cannot, tell us the set-up that got your closest!

Good luck!

I think that that website explains a lot on what actually happens in real life. I think that this website is made by scientists to show students like us how the system work, overall I think this is a fantastic site to learn about plants.

I was unable to use them all, however this is what i got

Predator = No predator
Omnivore A = Omnivore B & Herbivore A.
Omnivore B = Omnivore A, Herbivore B and Herbivore C.
Herbivore A = Plant A
Herbivore B = Plant B
Herbivore C = Plant A
Plant C = Non Existent

= means eating/eats.

I was unable to use them all however I did get something similar to what Joe said and I do agree. I don't understand this method completly. However I think it is interesting how every ecoseystem is a like a chain efect. So if one animal or plant is taken out of that ecosystem than everything changes and the disapirance of this organism is an action that will vibrate on a cord for eternity efecting everything in its path.

I agree with Amanda and I also got something similar to Joe so I agree with him. This simulation is very much what happens in real life when something that an ecosystem relies on dies than the entire population of the ecosystem starts to take a nosedive (but I'm not sure why a squirrel can eat a rabbit or doe). :)

I find it odd that one change in predation can affect the whole system! I see logic behind it though......

I didn't manage to get to the end but this is how far I got:

The top predator - eats Omnivore A, Omnivore B, and Herbivore C.
Omnivore A - eats Herbivore C and Plant A.
Omnivore B - eats Plant A, Plant B, Herbivore B, Herbivore C.
Herbivore A - eats Plant A
Herbivore B - eats Plant B and C
Herbivore C - eats Plant B and C.

No matter what I did omnivore A always died out, and right at the beginning too. There must be an extra element, like disease.

i got this far:
The top predator - eats Omnivore A, Omnivore B, and Herbivore C.
Omnivore A - eats Herbivore C and Plant A.
Omnivore B - eats Plant A, Plant B, Herbivore B, Herbivore C.
Herbivore A - eats Plant A
Herbivore B - eats Plant B and C
Herbivore C - eats Plant B and C.
this is very odd there are some faults... but cool

second try :)

Predator = No predator
Omnivore A = Omnivore B & Herbivore A.
Omnivore B = Omnivore A, Herbivore B and Herbivore C.
Herbivore A = Plant A
Herbivore B = Plant B
Herbivore C = Plant A
Plant C = Non Existent

I got this

Omnivre A--Eats Herbivore Aand plant A
Herboivore C -eats Plant Band C
Omnivore -B Eats Plant A plant
Herbivore Eats plant A
Herbovire B eats Plant Band C \This is a cool game and there is more falts

i can get all to survive but the top predator eats all but omnivore b
omnivore A eats plant c
omnivore b eats all
herbavore a and b
herb. a and b and c eat plant a

A Herbivore- Plant A and B
B Herbivore- Plant A
C Herbivore- Plant C
A Omnivore- Herbivore A and Plant C
B Omnivore- Herbivore C and Plant B
Top Predator- Omnivore A and B

This was one of my best tries most of the animals stayed average, however two or three died out.

I also tried something that came out with interesting results. I made it so everything ate all the possible options of there species. These results were very surprising for example they were the best out of all my tries, the lines moved up and down a lot and the plants survived the best even though they had the most predators!

Predator = No predator
Omnivore A = Plant C and Herbivore A
Omnivore B = Omnivore A, Herbivore A and C
Herbivore A = Plant A and
Herbivore B = Plant B and C
Herbivore C = Plant B and C

I couldn't make all of them survive.

For mine I put all of them to eat all of the choices and I got that all of them are survivable but they were dieing down!!! I like this discussion post because it shows what a real ecosystem would look like.

I tried a few things, I first tried all of them eating each other then I tried a family tree pattern. After that I tried something I cant quit remember but i got some closeish to perfect results.

My Results Were;

Predator = Herbivore C
Omnivore A = Herbivore A
Omnivore B = Herbivore B and C
Herbivore A = Plant A & C
Herbivore B = Plant B
Herbivore C = Plant A

I ran it a few times and i changed herbivore c to eat plant A and C and Barely anything changed, the same animals were in existence just different populations.

Plant C and Herbivore B are the only ones that died out.

I am not sure about this but i think:

a Predator = No predator
Omnivore A = Omnivore B & Herbivore A.
Omnivore B = Omnivore A, Herbivore B and Herbivore C.
Herbivore A = Plant A
Herbivore B = Plant B
Herbivore C = Plant A
Plant C = Non Existent

My computer says it can't open that website so I was having trouble getting to it. I tried it the other day on someone else's computer and it worked, but I found it very difficult to figure it out.
