SCIENCE!

The Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to evaluate the Pebble Mine Situation.

Things are looking good for the anti-mine side.  Knock on wood.

I think that it is a great idea for the NYT to FINALLY comment on this, and bring attention not only to the
Pebble Mine, but to the Bristol Bay economy and how they are suffering with food and water. I hope that they do build the mine because it will give the economy so much money for food or water and better housing.

Maybe building a dome around the area will help keep the water "clear." Where will the waste go with the mine if there's any waste at all? I think food is more important than oil or gas because we cant live off of those kinds of things. Food is more important. And if we do go through with this idea of the pebble mine then we will definitely mess up a ecosystem that has been running for a very, very long time. I think we should leave what was put on the earth. And also, why cant the mine be moved somewhere else?

OH WELL. by doing this to try and stop the pebble mine, people are only setting it back a few years. Pebble mine WILL happen. America needs money and the economy is a bit sketchy, so sooner orlater, this WILL happen.

Robert,
I am all for the Pebble mine myself, yet we do have to put our feet into their shoes and see what it would be like if somebody built a huge mine in our backyard, which shut down all of our business, we could not go surfing, in that specific river, it might be a special river to you, or something like that.

I think it is good that a decision is finally going to be made. I think the artical is being a bit hard headed as it says that the EPA is going to be on the salmons side.

Robert. America's Economy has started to rise again and by 2012 it will be a whole lot better - without the mine - the fact is that on a wide scale, the salmon will give America more money than the mine and the salmon will make the people who the mine effects, happy.

I'm glad that this is finally happening. These people know what they're talking about..... I hope. Anyhow, they will probably pick what is best. I might have to agree with Robert with this though, because it WILL happen at some point. Though, I've decided that I don't think it should happen right now. If there are ways that these people have come up with to protect the Pebble Mine, and they think it will work..... I am all for it.

Joe- this artcle is telling people that if BUILT, it would have an effect on ONE tiny stream, and that is a TERRIBLE point. america's economy still ratty (no offense americans) and i kinda take that back, that people wil start the mine because of bad economy

I've decided that I don't think it should happen right now. If there are ways that these people have come up with to protect the Pebble Mine and they think it will work I am all for it. also they will distroy the salmon homes and the salmon population.

I think it shouldn't happen, like right now but later yes, because of population of salmon.

Well Robert you think the economy is sketchy well it always has bin and they are doing fin. Now they hear oh yeah more money lets go for it. But you have to look at the other side of it the salmon will always be the the pebble mine will finish in a couple years and then after that they would not have any money coming in because you ruined the supple of salmon. So no it should not happen!

I think it is good that they are working hard on trying to find a solution to the problem that the mine may bring if they build it, however i don't think they should wast there money on building a wall around the mine. This will probably not work out, as like they said an earth quake could just take it down and then everything that it was holding back will poor into the rivers. Also the waste has to go somewhere even if it isn't going to the salmon it will still be destroying another ecosystem. They should just give up on the mine idea and stop trying to pursued people it is correct.

We need to look at the facts.

Pebble mine has a large chance of ruining Alaska's environment and culture.

It is not worth risking these two important factors for the social and economical reasons.

Although the building of the mine will help the problems could still occur. The arguments have gone further and they have figured out ways that could prevent the stuff that could ruin the rivers from happening. I think that the idea is still bad although it is better that they keep thinking of ways because maybe they will come up with one that could really work.

I think this is a great idea, I hope that they will not make the mine because it is really bad for the economy!
